St. Andrew's Profile

St. Andrew’s teachers engage students in hands-on play, creative projects, and lively, open-ended discussions that make learning an energetic, stimulating process instead of an experience to be dreaded or slept through.

St. Andrew’s recruits the top instructors in every area of study – gifted, dedicated professionals who have been called to teach. Our Lower School teachers are experts in early childhood development. Many St. Andrew’s instructors hold master’s degrees, and several have earned doctoral degrees. All of St. Andrew’s teachers participate in continuing education programs, ensuring they remain up-to-date on the latest technologies and developments in their areas of specialty.

At St. Andrew’s, teachers are not limited to merely passing on information, but have the opportunity to craft the learning experience to the individual student. Open communication between teachers and parents allows teachers to serve as an extension of the family, trusted adults available to help students make guided choices.

These outstanding instructors find the St. Andrew’s environment an ideal match for their professional expertise. Our teachers’ commitment to St. Andrew’s is reflected in their average tenure of 10 years.

At St. Andrew’s, our students know it’s cool to be smart because they see both attributes reflected in their teachers.

“Our phenomenal teachers don’t talk at us. They talk with us about the topic we are learning.”
Lillie Floyd
Class of 2010

“St. Andrew’s reminds us that our mission is not to teach students what to think but how to think. The immediate facts alone can be boring. It’s the context of the facts and the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ behind them that make learning engaging.”
Dr. Randy Patterson
Retired Chair, Speech and Communications Department
