Global Studies

Every St. Andrew’s student may not dream of traveling or living overseas, but every student of St. Andrew’s is a citizen of an increasingly dynamic and interconnected world.

To help prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century, St. Andrew’s has launched an innovative new Global Studies Program. Spanning all grade levels and subjects, this multifaceted initiative includes the study of languages and culture, history and geography, the arts and humanities, and math and science -- all from a global perspective. Even our community service requirement has global components.

From the Lower School forward, students are encouraged to explore the world, to study foreign languages, and to recognize how local and global forces are working together to shape our planet. In all three divisions, students can interact with counterparts in other schools and countries, learning about others and themselves as they develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable them to work together to understand and address the complex global issues we face.

In the Upper School, students can delve more deeply into global studies, with opportunities to travel and study abroad, to develop proficiency in a second language, and to complete a real-world, senior project. Thus engaged, these students will appreciate multiple perspectives and grasp our growing ties to the rest of the world; they also will be better prepared for subsequent educational pursuits, responsible civic engagement, professional success, and global leadership.

The only program of its kind in Mississippi, the Global Studies Program brings the world to St. Andrew’s and gives our students the world. For more information about this program, explore the links below or contact the Director of Global Studies, Dr. Chris Harth.
