What You Need to Know Before School Starts

List of 7 items.

  • Summer Reading

Please click here for required summer reading for 2024-25 school year. Please read the information carefully. You are expected to have completed your summer reading before returning to school in August.

In addition to the required books linked above for their English and/or history classes, Upper Schoolers will also read a free-choice book they signed up for in May. They will participate in a small book circle discussion of that free choice book the first week in August 2024.

    **New Students Enrolling in Summer:
Please try your best to read your grade level's required reads before school starts, prioritizing the required English book, then reading the history book. For your “free choice book from list,” please enjoy Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Happy Reading!

Our Middle and Upper School Gear Up Camps are open to all students who want to get a jump start on the new school year. They’re especially beneficial for new students, and those who have been referred by their teachers. Class size is limited to sixteen students.

Please contact your child's advisor for more information.

Need a little help dusting off the cobwebs from your writing? Come jump start your writing skills with this refresher workshop, offered in three sessions, on everything from MLA format and formal standard English rules to organizing a paragraph and a five paragraph essay. Let’s sweep those writing dust bunnies away and have our English teachers yelling “Hooray!”

Campers should wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a snack for each camp and a labeled water bottle. All classroom materials will be provided.
  • Textbooks and Required Supplies

Here are the required supplies for Upper School courses. If your course is not listed, you need to bring a 3-ring binder and notebook paper on the first day of class.

Textbooks will be provided by the school through the textbook fee. Students will receive them from their teachers when they begin school — you do not need to buy texts yourself.

The textbook fee is a non-optional fee. In order to provide textbooks to all students at a lower, bulk purchase price, all Middle and Upper School students are automatically enrolled in our textbook rental program. This fee includes all physical and digital textbooks/workbooks required for the 2024-25 school year; summer reading resources will still be purchased separately by individual families. Faculty have chosen whether the resources in their classes are to be rented and reused (i.e., need to be returned at the end of the course), or if that resource will be given to the student to freely write in to assist with their learning. In general, large history or math textbooks were selected by faculty to be included as part of the textbook rental pool, while items such as novels or workbooks may be kept permanently by students so they may freely highlight and annotate these. We recognize the importance of active reading strategies (i.e. highlighting, annotating, etc.) for all of our learners. Students should feel free to mark up all books as needed, and individual teachers will clarify expectations about textbook care at the beginning of each course.
  • Upper School Laptops

Upper School students must have a laptop.

Please use this online document to guide your purchasing decisions.

Grades 4-8 May Not Use Apple Laptops or Windows 10 Laptops. Any student with an Apple or Windows 10 Laptop will be required to buy a Chromebook. We will be checking and registering every Middle School device in August of 2024.
    • Grades 4-8: Chromebook
    • Grades 9-12: Apple Laptop or Windows 10 or 12 Laptop
    • All students need headphones with a microphone. These do not need to be expensive items. If you have questions about these, please contact: anthony.deprato@gosaints.org
All required software will be provided. Please do not buy software without consulting with the technology department. Students are often eligible for discounts on personal software purchases.

There are small groups of students who are focused on graphic design, video production, and 3D modeling. These students would likely be in Grade 11 or 12 and would have completed courses that fall within this type of work.

If you believe your student is in this group, please contact: anthony.deprato@gosaints.org. A separate recommendation will be made for these students.
  • Dragonfly Max Accounts for Student Athletes

All families with a 7th to 12th grade student who plans to participate in a sport at St. Andrew's during the 2024-25 school year, including dance and cheer, must have a Dragonfly Max profile to ensure eligibility. Each family only needs to create one profile; multiple athletes can be added to a single profile.

Here’s how to create an account:
    1. Visit www.dragonflymax.com, follow the prompt to the login/sign-up page.
    2. On the sign-up page, click Sign Up for Free.
    3. Create a parent account with your email address or phone number.
    4. Verify the email address or phone number.
    5. Enter St. Andrew’s school code – YQWKS7 – when prompted and confirm that St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is the correct school.
    6. Click Add A Child and then follow the prompts to create your child’s profile and complete his or her participation forms, including uploading any necessary documents.
    7. After completing your child’s forms, you can review the profile or add another child.
There are a number of consent forms and uploads that must be completed before a profile is considered acceptable. If you have questions about what forms are required or need a copy of a file, please contact Marlo Hendrix at hendrixma@gosaints.org in the St. Andrew’s Athletics Department.

Once you have created a profile on the website, download the Dragonfly Max app from the Apple or Google Play app stores and sign in for easy profile management.
