  • Art for Middle School, 5th – 8th grades, 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays — NORTH CAMPUS

    Fall 2025: Art for Middle School

    This course aims to enhance students' skills and self-expression in 2D design. Emphasizing the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, students will deepen their understanding of color theory, drawing techniques, and mixed-media applications.
     
    Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to refine their individual skills and foster personal creativity by creating artworks in various mediums. They will learn to utilize new methods and tools, with observational drawing, painting, and mixed media serving as the foundation for their projects. 

    Instructor Bio:
    As the art instructor for middle school students at St. Andrew's, I have enjoyed sharing my passion for art for the past six years. After a decade serving as the Middle School Counselor at SA, I have recently made my way back to the art classroom. Prior to my time at St. Andrew's, I taught art within the Gifted Education program at Starkville Public Schools. During that period, I earned my National Board Certification in Middle School Art. I possess a Bachelor's degree in education with a minor in art, along with a Master's degree in counseling from Mississippi State University.

    Let's make a masterpiece! In Artful Adventures we will learn about some of the greats like da Vinci, Picasso, Warhol and others. We will explore their techniques and create art inspired by their works. Sign up to help your child find their inner creativity! 


    Instructor's Bio: Taylor Davis has been teaching early childhood for over 18 years at St. Andrew's. She loves the art of creation and the conversations it inspires.

Each week, we’ll embark on exciting adventures to transform the wonders of nature into captivating creations—whether it’s crafting vibrant collages from leaves and flowers, designing our own garden journals, or sculpting imaginative pieces. This delightful fusion of outdoor exploration and artistic expression promises to ignite your creativity! All materials will be provided; just bring your curiosity and a love for the great outdoors!

    Hi! My name is Sara Clark, and I am the Lower School Librarian for both ECC and LS. I also Coach Archey at the Middle and High School. This will be my fourth year at St.Andrew's and in Mississippi. I love reading books, crafting, spending time with family, journaling, traveling, and trying new foods! In this class, I want to share my love for art and nature with your child!

    She moved to Jackson MS to teach for Jackson Ballet School which became Ballet Mississippi. While at Ballet Mississippi she studied with Charles Dickson, Alan Woodard, and Gillian Davis. 
     
    She was Principal of Ballet Mississippi School and Assistant Chairman of the Dance Department of APAC ( the Academic and Performing Arts Complex of the Jackson Public Schools).
     
    Lisa is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance, receiving Highly Commended on her Advanced Executant Exam and Distinction on her Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Exams.
     
    Most recently, she successfully completed training on the Royal Ballet School’s INSPIRE: Series 1, Seminars 1 - 6 taught by Sarah Daultry. She continues to supplement her professional development by participating in the Royal Ballet School’s Enlighten webinars.

    In addition to this Thursday class, 3rd and 4th graders are now encouraged to join one of the older classes for advanced learning with upper grades. Those options are Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 4:10 - 5:30pm. They may also join the mixed-grade Friday class from 2:45 - 3:45pm.

  • St. Andrew's Cathedral Children's Choir: 1st – 4th Grades, 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays

    St. Andrew's Cathedral Children's Choir will meet weekly in the Lower School Chapel for rehearsal. This ensemble is open to all students of all faith traditions, not just Episcopalians or members of St. Andrew's Cathedral. These choristers will learn music selected from the breadth and depth of the Anglican music-making tradition and will sing for selected Big Chapel services, as well as selected Sunday services at the Cathedral.

    Instructor Bio:
    Jessica Nelson is a native Mississippian with degrees in music and liturgy from Millsaps College and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, as well as the Colleague Certificate from the American Guild of Organists. She has been organist/choirmaster of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral since 2017 and directed the Mississippi Conference on Church Music and Liturgy from 2014-2022. In 2015, she was appointed by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry to a 6 year term on the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music of the Episcopal Church and currently serves on the board of the Association of Anglican Musicians, the professional organization for musicians serving Episcopal churches in the United States. She is the editor of Church Publishing, Inc.’s Ponder Anew: Conversations in 20th Century Church Music, (2022) a collection of essays, interviews, and sermons focused on the changing landscape of the Church and its music. Recent commissions include “Grounded in Love,” a setting of a text of St. Julian of Norwich commissioned by Christ Church Cathedral, New Orleans for the upcoming consecration of the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, as well as works for choir + organ for All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Tupelo and the Association of Anglican Musicians. Her other choral works are available from Paraclete Press and St. James Music Press.

    Guitar Class is a group class offering instruction in 2 different levels. Level 1 will teach the basics and Level 2 will teach beyond the basics. All students in these 2 classes will learn the fundamentals of how to play the guitar, using various styles and varied song genres.

    Instructor's Bio:

    Sarah Walker, St. Andrew’s Lower School Performing Arts teacher and Ian Edwards will work together in teaching this class. Ian is a graduate of Belhaven University where he graduated in music. He plays multiple instruments but guitar is his main instrument. He has been teaching private lessons at St. Andrew’s this semester and is so excited about starting this group class experience!

    Guitar Class is a group class offering instruction in 2 different levels. Level 1 will teach the basics and Level 2 will teach beyond the basics. All students in these 2 classes will learn the fundamentals of how to play the guitar, using various styles and varied song genres.

    Piano Lab is a unique curriculum developed by Sarah Walker which teaches piano skills in a fun and innovative atmosphere! Each student will be given a customized method binder and assigned to their own digital piano with headphones where they will be given both group and individualized instruction based on each student's needs. It is literally the BEST of both worlds! Class will rotate into three sections. 1. Technique/Skills. 2. Theory/Sight-Reading. 3. Practice

    Ty Dennis is the current ECC Performing Arts Teacher and assists Sarah Walker in all the functions of the ECC & Lower School Performing Arts Programs. She has now served St. Andrew's for 3 years and holds a Master's Degree and several Certifications in Music.

  • Recorder Clubhouse: 1st-4th, 3:00-4:00 on Thursdays

    Come join Recorder Clubhouse and start your musical journey! In this beginner level recorder class, we'll explore the fundamental skills needed to play the instrument. We'll start by learning how to hold the recorder properly and produce clear, beautiful notes. As the class progresses, we'll cover basic music notation and simple tunes to build your confidence. You'll gain an understanding of rhythm and melody, enhancing your ability to read and play music. By the end of the course, you'll be well-equipped to enjoy playing the recorder independently. 

    Instructor's Bio: Tiffany Busby is a fourth grade teacher at St. Andrew’s. She enjoys teaching all types of enrichments and has a passion for the arts! Although she teaches 4th grade, Mrs. Busby has a concentration in fine arts. She has also had years of training in ballet, jazz, acrobats, show choir, concert choir, madrigals, sextet, dance team, cheer, and various lead parts in plays and musicals. 
  • Strings — Kinder Violin Karate: Pre-K4 and K, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Fridays

    Violin Karate is a fun and motivational method created to teach kids in a group setting, helping them learn the basic skills needed to play the violin! It’s that simple! After each skill is mastered, the student earns a colored belt (tassel) to hang from the end of the violin scroll indicating that he/she has mastered a new skill. The Kinder class will focus on building the foundation of violin playing with games, exercises and activities to strengthen motor development and cognitive connections required to become a violinist.

    Violin Karate is a fun and motivational method created to teach kids in a group setting, helping them learn the basic skills needed to play the violin! It’s that simple! After each skill is mastered, the student earns a colored belt (tassel) to hang from the end of the violin scroll indicating that he/she has mastered a new skill. This particular class will divide students according to their skill level (Beginner or Intermediate) so students will feel confident and progress accordingly.

    Sarah Walker has been a Performing Arts Teacher here at St. Andrew's for 10 years and serves as the coordinator for the department. She has years of international, public and private school teaching experience, giving her a broad world-wide view of music pedagogy. She is the Master Teacher and creator of Sarah Walker Studios, Violin Karate and The Piano Lab. Sarah is passionate about finding creative and Innovative ways to teach music to kids, always seeking to make learning FUN!

    Nairi Seker will be assisting Sarah Walker in teaching this class. Nairi is a native of Turkey, holds a Master's Degree in Violin Performance and is currently the Music Director at First Pres. Day School. Ms Seker brings full energy, passion and so much FUN into her classroom. Your kids will love her!

    Violin Karate is a fun and motivational method created to teach kids in a group setting, helping them learn the basic skills needed to play the violin! It’s that simple! After each skill is mastered, the student earns a colored belt (tassel) to hang from the end of the violin scroll indicating that he/she has mastered a new skill. This particular class will divide students according to their skill level (Beginner or Intermediate) so students will feel confident and progress accordingly.

    Violin Karate is a fun and motivational method created to teach kids in a group setting, helping them learn the basic skills needed to play the violin! It’s that simple! After each skill is mastered, the student earns a colored belt (tassel) to hang from the end of the violin scroll indicating that he/she has mastered a new skill. The Kinder class will focus on building the foundation of violin playing with games, exercises and activities to strengthen motor development and cognitive connections required to become a violinist. Each student will be provided a bag and a binder plus all earned belts. Please note that a violin is needed for this class. Each student will be provided a bag and a binder plus all earned belts. Please note that a ukulele will be provided in class, but at home practice will require each student to have their own at home.
