Instructor Bio: Cyndi Irons is the Middle School Art Teacher at St. Andrew's. She has taught art to artists of all ages from kindergarten through adults, both in the classroom and in the community. She has worked in education for many years as a teacher and a counselor. As an artist drawing, painting, and mixed media is her passion. Cyndi graduated from MSU and held National Board Certification in Middle School Art.

We will stretch our creativity muscle in Artful Adventures. Your children will paint, craft and learn about different art disciplines. This includes watercolors, clay, cutting, jewelry making, coloring and fiber arts. We will discuss artists and make all sorts of fun creations! Our fine motor skills will get a workout while we have great fun! Every child is an artist...let's see what kind your kiddo is in Artful Adventures!

Spring 2025: Exploring Art Techniques: A Colorful Journey!

In this colorful art class, you will learn how many art techniques that are all inspired by color! Each week will do a new colorful art piece. Examples of some of the projects we will work on are: tie dye a t-shirt, watercolor, paint a canvas, use fabric paint on a bag or t-shirt, explore tint and shade with acrylic paints to make glow art!
Instructor's Bio: Tiffany Busby is a second grade teacher at St. Andrew's. She has taught for 27 years, and has offered enrichments such as NASA STEAM Club, Wild Robot Book Club, and Titanic STEAM Club. She enjoys integrating art and science into engaging enrichment classes!

Spring 2025: St. Andrew's Cathedral Children's Choir Instructor: Jessica Nelson Grades: 1st – 4th Day and Time: Tuesday from 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. Tuition: free Location: Lower School, Jean Jones Chapel Dismissal: via Front Office
St. Andrew's Cathedral Children's Choir will meet weekly in the Lower School Chapel for rehearsal. This ensemble is open to all students of all faith traditions, not just Episcopalians or members of St. Andrew's Cathedral. These choristers will learn music selected from the breadth and depth of the Anglican music-making tradition and will sing for selected Big Chapel services, as well as selected Sunday services at the Cathedral.
Instructor Bio: Jessica Nelson is a native Mississippian with degrees in music and liturgy from Millsaps College and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, as well as the Colleague Certificate from the American Guild of Organists. She has been organist/choirmaster of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral since 2017 and directed the Mississippi Conference on Church Music and Liturgy from 2014-2022. In 2015, she was appointed by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry to a 6 year term on the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music of the Episcopal Church and currently serves on the board of the Association of Anglican Musicians, the professional organization for musicians serving Episcopal churches in the United States. She is the editor of Church Publishing, Inc.’s Ponder Anew: Conversations in 20th Century Church Music, (2022) a collection of essays, interviews, and sermons focused on the changing landscape of the Church and its music. Recent commissions include “Grounded in Love,” a setting of a text of St. Julian of Norwich commissioned by Christ Church Cathedral, New Orleans for the upcoming consecration of the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, as well as works for choir + organ for All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Tupelo and the Association of Anglican Musicians. Her other choral works are available from Paraclete Press and St. James Music Press.
Group guitar is a fantastic way to get a start on learning all the basic fundamental skills of playing the guitar. Come enjoy this easy, step by step approach to learning how to play the guitar. We will explore chords, individual notes, theory and learn how to play songs to sing along! Class guitars, music and supplies will be provided so your child does not need to bring a thing!

Sarah Walker, St. Andrew’s Lower School Performing Arts teacher and Ian Edwards will work together in teaching this class. Ian is a graduate of Belhaven University where he graduated in music. He plays multiple instruments but guitar is his main instrument. He has been teaching private lessons at St. Andrew’s this semester and is so excited about starting this group class experience!

Students will learn to paint with acrylics on canvas. They will have easels, aprons, and other materials. They will learn to mix colors and use brushes correctly. This class will exercise their creativity and help improve their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It fosters their imagination, allows them to express emotions and thoughts, and provides a relaxing experience.
Instructor's Bio: I’m Lucía Duque and I’m from Spain. I studied at the “La Palma” arts school in Madrid and finished my studies at the Seville arts school. I have been an artist for more than 20 years and my works have been exhibited in various galleries and museums in Spain and the USA. I have been teaching acrylic and watercolor painting for 15 years in painting workshops for children in summer camps, youth camps, and schools. I moved to Mississippi 6 years ago. For 4 years, I was the art coordinator for the NGO Red Door in Jackson, MS and I taught painting classes at my studio in Clinton. Some places where I worked as a painting teacher have been the Pi i Margall school (Madrid, Spain), La Industria (Santander, Spain), Centro Multiusos Parque Victoria (Málaga, Spain). Spring 2025: Photography Club Instructor: Jackie Losset Grades: 2nd-4th Day and Time: Friday, 3:30-4:30pm Tuition: $450 ASC students, $500 non-ASC Location: Lower School
In Photography Club, we will have a great time learning the basics of both digital and film photography. We will discuss composition, lighting, film processing, darkroom practices, and features of digital cameras. Each class will include a short lesson followed by a fun activity. All equipment will be provided including a basic point-and-shoot digital camera that will be theirs to keep.

Violin Karate is a fun and motivational method created to teach kids in a group setting, helping them learn the basic skills needed to play the violin! It’s that simple! After each skill is mastered, the student earns a colored belt (tassel) to hang from the end of the violin scroll indicating that he/she has mastered a new skill. The Kinder class will focus on building the foundation of violin playing with games, exercises and activities to strengthen motor development and cognitive connections required to become a violinist.

Violin Karate is a fun and motivational method created to teach kids in a group setting, helping them learn the basic skills needed to play the violin! It’s that simple! After each skill is mastered, the student earns a colored belt (tassel) to hang from the end of the violin scroll indicating that he/she has mastered a new skill. This particular class will divide students according to their skill level (Beginner or Intermediate) so students will feel confident and progress accordingly.
