Track and Field

The 5th/6th grade track team had their 3rd meet of the season on Tuesday, March 28. It was extremely windy outside, but it didn't hold anyone back from running very well! Many of the athletes won their events including: MC Neely in the 1600m, Wesley Walker in the 1600m, Sage Dixon in the 100m, Daisy Brisby, Jai Payton, Bahar Bedi, Sage Dixon in the 4x100m, and Daisy Brisby in the 200m.

The varsity track team traveled to Pass Christian, MS for the Cory McGee Classic this past Saturday, April 1. The following athletes won their event: Emily Ireland in the 1600m and 800m; Parker Lee, Carol Rappai, Mary Mac Penton, Claudia Maron in the 4x800m; and Liam Perry in the 3200m. Sixteen athletes came away with a new personal record: Jessica Livingston in the 400m, Claudia Maron in the 400m, Parker Lee in the 3200m, Maya Worsley in Discus, Raegan Mabry in Shot Put and Discus, Micah Davis in Discus, Jeffery Willis in the 100m, Dylan Tobias in the 100m and 200m, Elijah Robinson in the 200m, Justin Willis in the 200m, Larrson Calhoun in the 800m, Ant Jones in the 800m, Jack Adams in the 3200m, Arthur Gauthier in Pole Vault, Holden Caraway in Shot Put, and Bralan Anderson in Discus. There were also two athletes who got a new season best: Emily Ireland in 800m and Robert Eriator in Shot Put.
 
After this past meet, there are 13 athletes and 4 relays that are ranked in the Top 8 in 3A: Larrson Calhoun – 8th in the 800m and 5th in the 1600m; Liam Perry – 8th in the 1600m and 5th in the 3200m; William Skelton – 6th in the 3200m; Robert Eriator – 2nd in Discus; Larry Johnson – 7th in Discus; Holden Caraway – 8th in Discus; Arthur Gauthier – 7th in Pole Vault; Stella Jolly – Tied for 7th in Pole Vault, 2nd in 100mH, and 2nd in 300mH; Emily Ireland – 1st in the 3200m, 1600m, and 800m; India Mitchell – 3rd in the 3200m, 1600m, and 800m; Parker Lee – 7th in the 3200m; Mary Mac Penton – 7th in the 1600m; Sarah Dial Almand – 3rd in the 300mH; Devin Caddle, Larrson Calhoun, Jude Misenar, Richard Burrow – 8th in the 4x400m; Liam Perry, Jack Adams, Larrson Calhoun, Nehemiah Thompson – 5th in the 4x800m; Emily Ireland, India Mitchell, Lucy Rust, Claudia Maron – 4th in the 4x800m; and Claudia Maron, Olivia Kent, Jessica Livingston, Sarah Dial Almand – 4th in the 4x400m. It has been a great season so far as the Saints turn their focus to the District Meet in order to qualify for the State Meet. District will be held at St. Andrew's on Thursday, April 13, with competition starting at 10:00 am. Come and cheer on the Saints!
 

Lacrosse

This past Friday, the Saints lacrosse team scrapped its way to an 11-10 victory in overtime against St. Stanislaus. Each of the three attackmen had four points: junior Banks Egger had 4 goals, senior Patten Lane had 3 goals and one assist, and senior Charles Sanders had 1 goal and 3 assists. Sophomore Austin Morgan had the game winning goal to put the Saints at 2-1. The team travels to Birmingham on April 15 to play Homewood High School.
 

Baseball

St. Andrew's baseball team continued division play last week and improved to 4-0 in the division and 12-8 overall. The Saints took two easy wins over longtime division foe McLaurin, 18-3 and 10-1. The varsity team also defeated French Camp Academy on Saturday at home to finish with all wins for the week. The junior varsity team split with McLaurin and defeated French Camp to improve to 10-6 on the season. Division play continues this week against Raleigh. The 9th grade team also has a busy week with games at Central Hinds on Thursday.  
 

Softball

Last Tuesday, both the varsity and junior varsity teams recorded their first wins of the season against Jim Hill High School. In the varsity game, the Saints run ruled Jim Hill in 3 innings. Callie Sullivan had a season-high seven strikeouts. The following Saints got on base with a walk — Isabel Mitchell (2x), Callie Sullivan, Sophia Le (2x), Brooke Sheriff (2x), Stella Roman (2x), Kyla Jackson, Ashley Bryan, Mira Mitchell, and Elaine Farr. Kyla Jackson (2x) and Ashley Bryan also got on base by being hit by a pitch. Elaine Farr hit a double to left field, and Callie Sullivan, Stella Roman, Sophia Le, and Elaine Farr all had infield singles. Defensively, Callie Sullivan and Isabel Mitchell worked together to tag out two different girls trying to score. One was on a ground ball to Sullivan and one was on a passed ball.
 
In the junior varsity game, Stella Roman walked and then scored on Hazel Misenar’s hard hit back at the pitcher. Lizzie Bryson, Charlotte Graves, Georgia Paduda, Kyla Jackson, Isabelle Cooperstein, Mira Mitchell, and Olivia Ryker also all earned walks. Laurel Bergin was hit by a pitch. Other runs were scored by Lizzie Bryson, Laurel Bergin, Charlotte Graves, Georgia Paduda, Kyla Jackson, and Stella Roman. 
 
On Friday, the Saints traveled to Raleigh to play a single varsity game. While the Saints battled hard and scored 3 runs against the number one team in the district, they came up short in the end. Laurel Bergin was hit by a pitch in the 3rd inning. She aggressively stole second on a ball in the dirt and then advanced to third on a bad throw from the catcher. She then scored on Kyla Jackson’s ground ball hit to second base. Ashley Bryan and Stella Roman walked and Callie Sullivan reached on an error to load the bases. Elaine Farr then hit a shot right back up the middle to score both Bryan and Roman. Great defensive plays were made by both Kyla Jackson in left field and Isabel Mitchell behind the plate. 

Next week, the Saints will travel to face Jim Hill High School again on Wednesday, April 12.
 

Tennis

Last week, the Saints played Jackson Prep and lost in a very close 4-5 match. Finn Tarver, Gaby de Delva, and Mia Miller all won their singles matches. Alleah Paulding and Mira Bhatt came back from being down in the second set of their doubles match and won 6-1, 6-4. Camp Tarver and Arnav Patel had a close match and lost in a 3rd set tiebreaker. 

The Saints finished first in the district, and all of the varsity team qualified to go to individual state tournament at the end of April. Those players include: Finn Tarver, Gaby de Delva, Alleah Paulding, Mira Bhatt, Jasmine Bennett, Anna Everly, Madison Williams, Pranav Reddy, Camp Tarver, Arnav Patel, Anand Patel, and Shaan Patel.

Powerlifting

On Friday, March 31, senior Jasper Jones made a return trip to the Mississippi Coliseum for the 3A Girls State Championship Powerlifting Meet. In a heated competition, Jones finished 4th out of the six qualifiers in her weight class. Besides setting three new personal records for the Squat (205 lbs.), Bench Press (95 lbs.) and Lift Total (505 lbs.), she also set a new 3A Girls State Record for the under-114 lb. weight class with a bench press of 95 lbs. — breaking the previous record of 90 lbs. Congratulations Jasper!

On Saturday, April 1, junior Larry Johnson competed in his first 3A State Powerlifting Championship at the Mississippi Coliseum. Competing against some of the strongest lifters in all weight divisions of 3A, Larry finished 5th out of the seven qualifiers in his weight class. He also set 3 new personal records for the Squat (545 lbs.), Bench Press (320 lbs.) and Lift Total (1320 lbs.) as he wrapped up a most successful junior season. Congratulations Larry!
 

Golf

On March 30, Gia Ngo shot a 106 in the Germantown Invitational at Canton Country Club.

On April 3, the boys team played in the Choctaw Central Invitational at Dancing Rabbit (Azaleas). The scores were as follows:

Connor Dunnigan - 81
Preston Daily - 86
Roman Sandhu - 94
Samuel Chen - 96
Lucas Annunziata - 103

The boys and girls teams return to action on Wednesday, April 12 at Patrick Farms in the regional tournament.
 

Archery

The Middle School archery team earned a 2nd place at South State in Hattiesburg last week with a score of 2867 and will compete at the State Competition April 17-20. The top shooters were Rohan Anand, Johann Bhagat, Ashton Busby, Carter Hathcock, Isabelle Cooperstein, Ila Ketner, Kayleigh Parnel, and Emma Romer.
 
The Upper School team shot a 3040, which is a top 12 average of 253/300. Competition in high school is a lot tougher, with schools shooting team averages upwards of 280. Top shooters were Claudia Maron with a score of 270 (also receiving a perfect score of 50 at the 15m), Lucy McCain, Verena Bhagat, Olivia Kent, Zoe Sprayberry, Sawyer Williams, Harrison Bobbitt, Nate Robertson, Richard Burrow, William Simpson, and Joy Dhar.
     
The state competition will be held the April 17-20 in Jackson at the Equine Center. Shooting dates and times will be announced after this week's North State Qualifier.
