  • Beginner Basketball — Skyhawks: 1st – 2nd grades, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. on Mondays

    This fun, skill-intensive Skyhawks basketball program is designed for beginning players. Using our progression-based curriculum, we focus on the whole player - teaching sportsmanship and teamwork. Boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of passing, shooting, ball handling, rebounding and defense through skill-based instruction and small-sided scrimmages.

    Instructor's Bio:
    Paul Van Hooydonk (Coach Van) has been teaching and coaching for over 30 years. The former Millsaps College Soccer Coach has a Masters Degree in Education and is certified to teach in Mississippi. He also holds a National Youth Diploma and an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. In addition, he is certified by USA Football and as a Double Goal Coach by the Positive Coaching Alliance.

    This fun, skill-intensive Skyhawks basketball program is designed for intermediate players who have either taken the Beginner course, or who have experience playing on an organized basketball team.     Does your kiddo love to dance? Have them join our fun Dance Time where they can learn rhythm, coordination, and creativity through playful moves and upbeat tunes! It's a great way for them to build confidence and motor skills in a super lively atmosphere. Kids just love to move and groove to silly, happy songs! Dancing helps them get stronger, improve their balance and flexibility, and make friends along the way. With fun movements and catchy tunes, your child will stay active, sharpen their focus, and have a great time! It’s the perfect way to wrap up the day while your little one learns, grows, and has a blast—all through the joy of dancing and music!

    Instructor's Bio:
    Liza Ambriz is a former St. Andrew's 5th grade Spanish teacher and a St. Andrew’s substitute teacher for PK3-12th grade for several years. She loves working with kids, and is passionate about teaching children to develop their skills for different activities. Her instruction style is engaging and empowering. She brings passion and joy to what she does!!

    Get ready to unleash your inner dance star with Groove Masters! In this high-energy class, we'll crank up the kid-friendly tunes and learn awesome freestyle moves. No experience needed - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to have fun! We'll explore different ways to move our bodies, express ourselves, and build our confidence through dance.
    Each week, we'll:
    Learn cool new dance moves: From popping and locking to flowing and grooving, we'll try out all kinds of fun ways to move and shake.

    Boost our self-confidence: We'll discover how dancing can help us feel strong, brave, and proud of who we are.

    Become dance partners and team players: We'll work together to create awesome group dances and learn how to support and encourage each other.

    Discover how dance makes us healthier and happier: We'll explore the incredible ways that dancing benefits our bodies and minds.

    Hi everyone! I'm Ms. Liesel Riddick and I'm so excited to be your Groove Masters instructor! I work with our amazing first graders here at St. Andrew's as an Instructional Assistant. I'm also a registered nurse and the founder of a nonprofit that helps people fighting cancer. In my free time, I love hanging out with my awesome fourth grader (who also goes to St. Andrew's!) We both LOVE to dance, and I can't wait to share our passion with you! In Groove Masters, we'll have a blast moving and grooving together! Are you ready for it?

    Get ready for an unforgettable experience with this dynamic duo mix class, perfect for anyone eager to unleash their inner mover! This action-packed session features exciting activities such as (mini) ninja warrior obstacle courses and choreographed routines set to the latest Disney hits. Every activity is expertly designed to enhance self-esteem, strengthen muscles, and develop both fine and gross motor skills, all while fostering a passion for staying active. No experience needed. Bring your energy, body, and your boogie, and LET’S GET MOVING!

    Instructor's Bio:
    As the ECC Fitness teacher, I am deeply committed to the well-being and growth of all students. With over 25 years of technically trained dance experience and more than ten years in health and fitness, I strive to create a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive. My educational background and certifications in exercise science, nutrition, yoga, social-emotional learning, and health & wellness allow me to support each student's unique journey. I’m here to offer guidance that is not only comprehensive but also compassionate, as I believe that true wellness encompasses both body and mind.

    Class Description:
    Do you want to show some St. Andrew’s School Spirit? This class will be a basic cheerleading class. Students will learn cheerleading motions as well as different sideline cheers and dances to perform at the end of the year. Students will learn how to do simple stunts that cheerleaders do when performing. These are great skills to learn when you are younger. This will be good for students who are interested in dance or cheerleading in future years. This will be a huge source of school spirit for the Lower School! We could potentially even help cheer for a Lower School pep rally!

    My name is Taylor Massey! I am a 2nd grade teacher at St. Andrew’s. I taught 1st grade in Louisiana for 1 and a half years. I graduated with a bachelors degree in elementary education at the University of Louisiana. I graduated from Lafayette High School in 2017 where I was captain of my varsity cheer team and competitive squad. I am passionate about teaching and instilling a love of school spirit in students.
  • Karate and Self Defense: 2nd – 4th grades, 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. on Fridays

    Students will acquire karate and self defense skills while improving stamina, flexibility and develop positive character traits (self discipline, motivation, and persistence). The tuition includes the Kyokushin Gi (the karate uniform).

    Mr. Slusarczyk is a 4th degree black belt in Kyokushin Karate. He has more than 28 years of experience in teaching martial arts.

    This multi-sport program was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of flag football, basketball and tee ball are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.

    This will be a basic tennis class. We will be using balloons, cones, small tennis racquets and of course tennis balls. The main objective is to teach hand-eye coordination which is so important in so many sports. There will be lots of running, jumping and balancing as well. They will have fun while learning about tennis.

    Hello, my name is Lynn Davis. I am the Auxiliary Programs Associate at St. Andrew's. I have a Bachelor's degree in elementary education and taught school for several years before staying home to raise my children. After that I came to St Andrew's where my children had attended school and became a teaching assistant before becoming auxiliary associate. I have played tennis since I was 25 years old. I played USTA and JLTA for many years. I have once again started to play and am absolutely loving it. I am definitely qualified to introduce tennis to your little ones. I love children, and love to see them thrive and the excitement when they accomplish things. For me tennis is a sport that can be played throughout your life.

From Ultimate Frisbee and Ghostbuster Tag to noodle freeze tag and line tag, we've got it all covered. Immerse yourself in the thrilling world of Jurassic Park, link tag, sharks and minnows, blob tag, Ultimate football, and Capture the Football, just to name a few. These engaging games not only guarantee endless fun but also help students develop crucial skills such as speed, strength, balance, spatial awareness, and game strategies. Join us and experience an amazing journey of learning and play in a dynamic environment.

    Welcome to Happy Panda Yoga & Mindfulness, a delightful journey into the world of yoga and mindfulness designed especially for Pre-K 3 to Kindergarten students. Every Tuesday afternoon, we gather for a themed exploration of movement, relaxation, and imaginative play.
    Each week, our class revolves around a new theme, bringing stories and animal poses to life in a way that engages young minds and bodies. We use captivating storybooks that coincide with our lessons, making yoga accessible and fun through imaginative storytelling.
    Our sessions begin with musical welcome songs that set a joyful tone for our time together. We then practice gentle and playful yoga sequences, including musical sun salutations that combine movement with music, fostering a sense of rhythm and flow.
    In addition to yoga poses, we enjoy interactive games such as "Mirror Me" and "Yogi Says," encouraging teamwork, listening skills, and coordination in a supportive environment.
    Every student will use the instructor's yoga mat during class, ensuring a safe and comfortable space for exploration. At the end of the semester, each child will receive a special keepsake: a panda breathing buddy. This cuddly friend serves as a reminder of our mindfulness practices, offering comfort and companionship beyond our weekly gatherings.
    Happy Panda Yoga & Mindfulness is not just about physical movement; it's about nurturing emotional well-being, creativity, and self-expression in our youngest learners. Join us as we embark on a journey of discovery and inner peace, where every child blossoms like a happy panda in their own unique way!

    Instructor's Bio:
    Ms. Wolf is beginning her 16th year as a full-time faculty member at St. Andrew's. She spends her days at school getting to know each and every student! She is creative, positive and puts her focus on the unique gifts of each child. Ms. Wolf is a parent and a grandparent. She enjoys art, crafting, yoga, cooking, gardening, and mostly being in the presence of children!
